Trooper Talks Safe Driving

With spring break beginning for schools and continuing for most of the next month, the South Carolina  Highway Patrol is reaching out to high school and college students to talk about highway safety.

Corporal Sonny Collins, community relations officer for the South Carolina Highway Patrol, visited the Alternative Center for Education Thursday, March 10. Cpl. Collins’ presentation focused on driver safety, dangers of speeding, texting while driving and seat belt laws.

Positive Role Models TAG the Alternative Center for Education (ACE)

School board member, Paula Morris, District Office employees, Superintendent Laura Hickson, Yvonne Scott, Christi Anderson, Sharon Williams, and concerned citizen, Everett Hannah visited Lake City’s Alternative Center for Education on Homecoming Friday. Paula Morris encouraged ACE’s young girls to be the best they could be. She called them princesses and told them that they mattered. She shared portions of her life’s story, the good and the bad, in order to motivate them towards their purpose. Superintendent Hickson announced that she and the other present district office employees had decided to TAG= Teach, Access, and Grow the girls at ACE.

Mr. Everett Hannah met with the males of ACE. He also focused his encouraging words on purpose. He made them consider what they wanted out of life: future aspirations, gifts and talents. He shared that each of them is a prince which equals royalty. Each male was encouraged to consider himself special and important.

ACE’s students were very receptive and thankful to all our visitors for taking the time out to care. The ACE staff would like to encourage other positive role models in our area to take notice of our children at ACE: It takes a village to raise a child.
